I'VE BEEN THERE. More about Benji's recovery story Growing up, I was always an athletic guy. After high school, endurance sports became my life. But then, like so many of us, a major injury took me out of commission. As part of my PT program, I would work out at the gym. While I was struggling with my own rehabilitation, I was forced to learn more about my body. I fell in love with Exercise Science. Slowly, I regained my strength. My second major injury came in the form of a car vs bicycle accident where I was struck head on by a car. Good news is after 8 surgeries and a lot of hard work I’ve gotten myself back to racing. Albeit, I no longer ride on the road, can’t trust cars, but I’m back to racing both enduro and downhill mountain bikes. It hasn’t been a smooth road getting to where I currently am but being stubborn and not accepting defeat has worked in my favor. Over the years since my accident I’ve learned to listen to my body. I fully understand now that just as much effort needs to go into my flexibility, mobility and corrective work as it does for my strength and endurance. I’ll never be pain free again but I will give it everything I have to perform at the highest level I can.
